DESCRIPTION: Schoeler & Heaton provide full architectural services to design a new entrance canopy for an existing private residence. Constructed of redwood cedar, tempered glass and stainless steel components, the canopy provides shelter without compromising natural light. Materials were selected to be compatible with the existing cedar shingle façade, as well as to ensure durability and low maintenance. The “hovering” wood beam anchored on one end by the house, and the other by a wood post, acts as an archway over the deck. This arch formalizes the transition between the garden, deck, and front door. The project also included the design of new built-in bench seating, and an entrance door with sidelight.
