DESCRIPTION: Full consulting services were provided for the award-winning adaptive re-use of the former Nutrition Building (Building 59) which houses the Michele Comeau Learning Centre, a fully accessible training centre.
The design mandate was to preserve the existing heritage character of the building’s exterior while satisfying the complex requirements of the new program. Exterior heritage preservation involved the restoration of the existing wood detailing, masonry restoration and repointing. The restored exterior fabric offset the new entrance and interior spaces which were designed in a sympathetic, modern vocabulary.
